CableLabs® Certified Advanced Gateway to deliver superior Wi-Fi connectivity and data throughput with remote management and diagnostic tools

At the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014, Pace, a global leader for digital TV and broadband technology solutions for service providers, will launch a range of advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Gateway products that enable a new generation of high-speed data and media services for cable operators.  Pace will be at booth #148 at the Expo, which takes place at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, CO, from September 23-25.

Pace will introduce their new gateway product line-up that delivers up to 24 bonded downstream DOCSIS channels with speeds up to 960 Mbps and high-powered Wi-Fi performance.  The gateways provide the range needed for greater home connectivity, coverage and speed with dual band, concurrent 802.11n (2.4 GHz) and 802.11ac (5 GHz) functionality.

Pace will have the following gateways on display at the Cable-Tec Expo:

  • Pace D5001 Ultra Gateway - DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway that provides 24 bonded downstream channels, 8 upstream channels, integrated MoCA 2.0, and dual band 802.11 n/ac.
  • Pace D3001 Max Gateway - DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway that provides 16 bonded downstream channels, 4 upstream channels, integrated MoCA 2.0, and dual band 802.11 n/ac.
  • Pace D3003 Advanced Gateway - DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway that provides 16 bonded downstream channels, 4 upstream channels, and dual band 802.11 n/ac.

Pace's D5001 Ultra Gateway and the Pace D3001 Max Gateway utilize built-in MoCA 2.0 networking to deliver in excess of 400 Mbps data connectivity over coax cable to power a variety of devices, including advanced media gateways, IP video set-top boxes (STB),  gaming consoles, and home networking peripherals.  All of the new gateways are compatible with TiVo® systems and fully integrated into Pace's Whole Home architecture featuring the MG1 Multi-tuner Video Gateway and Mi3 client devices.

The Wi-Fi configuration on all of the devices supports almost unlimited connection options for operator managed and subscriber-owned devices.  The 5 GHz Wi-Fi band is managed by a Quality of Service (QoS) protocol that enables both subscriber-owned data clients like tablets and operator managed devices such as the Pace Mi3W wireless STB to coexist on the same band, while ensuring a carrier grade HD video experience.

"As a strategic partner of Pace for many years, we are very proud to be supporting them as they enter this sector of the market," said Jay Kirchoff, Vice President of Marketing, Cable Broadband at Broadcom Corporation.  "With this range of products utilizing Broadcom silicon for DOCSIS, Wi-Fi and MoCA, Pace has created a very powerful gateway proposition for the cable industry."

Other benefits include a 'Best-in-Class' compact and consumer-friendly design, the ability to leverage TR-069 and SNMPv3 for remote management using Pace's ECO tools or third party tools, and in-home Wi-Fi analyzer and RF network spectrum analyzer functionality, all helping to reduce operational costs to the MSO.

"Pace is excited to merge our extensive DOCSIS and Wi-Fi gateway experience from our many years in the broadband sector with our advanced media gateway expertise on this innovative product range," added Tim O'Loughlin, President, Pace Americas, LLC. "Our new gateways have the right feature set and functionality to serve subscribers' increasing demand for advanced services."

Customer testing has begun with a select number of MSOs in North America. Initial availability of the gateways is set for commercial field deployment in November. Further variants of the range will follow in 2015.
