BEN Global has featured a story on the Australian Government's proposed $2 Billion Water Infrastructure plan with comment from Dr. Adrian Zammit.

'According to Pacific Environment's land and water business general manager Adrian Zammit, the loan scheme will be beneficial for the space, though the extra capital support must be complemented with investments in transport links like roads, rail and ports.

'If commercial gains are to be made by the harvesting of water, for producers will need access to local and international markets for their produce,' Zammit said.

'A strategy is only as effective as the alignment and consistency of all other federal and state government initiatives.'

'This is a good start but we need to see governments look at long-term goals rather than quick-fix solutions.'

Zammit believes that most of the funding should focus on projects in tropical Australia to maximise an increase in agricultural productivity.'
