Major Healthcare Provider Flexes Its Wings

Topping Up Ceremony for Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu Hospital
KOTA KINABALU, 8th APRIL - Gleneagles Hospitals, the brand synonymous with excellent private healthcare in the South East Asian region, will soon be available to the people of Sabah via its latest addition, Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu. The purpose built hospital, which will be opening its doors in the
1st Quarter of 2015, had its topping up ceremony yesterday, officiated by the Y.B. Datuk Seri Panglima
Masidi Manjun, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah.
The topping up ceremony, held at the hospital's construction site, was done to commemorate the overall completion of the building's structure by the developer. The ceremony was attended by Tan Sri Dato' Dr Abu Bakar bin Suleiman, the Chairman of IHH Healthcare Berhad, Dato' Mohammed Azlan Bin Hashim, the Chairman of Parkway Pantai Limited, Datuk Khairil Anuar bin Abdullah, the Chairman of Pantai Holdings Berhad, Dr Tan See Leng, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare Berhad and Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Parkway Pantai, Mr Alvin Lee Swee Hee, the Chief Executive Officer (Malaysia Operations), Pantai Holdings Berhad, Dato' Amir Firdaus, Senior General Manager (Malaysia Operations), Pantai Holdings Berhad, the senior management teams and about 200 local representatives from both the government and the private sector.
Dr Tan, when delivering his opening remark said that the topping up ceremony represented an important milestone for Parkway Pantai Limited and IHH Healthcare Berhad. Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu will be the first foray by the group in establishing a private healthcare facility in East Malaysia.
Dr Tan said, "Regardless of where we are, our emphasis has always been on the local population, bringing international standards of healthcare to local communities. We envision the same for Kota Kinabalu - high quality clinical services with a transparent fee structure and fee packages that are accessible and affordable to the community of Sabah and beyond."
Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu will start operating with 200 beds, 100 doctors' suites and 6 operating theatres. It will also have a 24 hour Accident & Emergency Department with Trauma and Intensive Care Centre. It is built in accordance to the standards set by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) and the international accreditation body, Joint Commission International (JCI). When fully
operational, the hospital aims to tap into the health tourism market. Currently the hospital is recruiting talent for the day-to-day running of the hospital and is targeting the Sabah and East Malaysia talent pool.
Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, in his speech, said, "With Gleneagles coming up here, it also represents an opportune time for my fellow Sabahans to find good jobs with the hospital. Most of our talented doctors, nurses and allied health practitioners have gone to West Malaysia and abroad in search of greener pastures. This was due to the perceived lack of opportunities in private healthcare in East Malaysia. Now, with the establishment of Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, we will be able to stop the brain drain and retain such talent."
During the event, videos on the construction progress and what the future holds was shown to the invited guests. The hospital will be the 13th hospital to be under the Pantai and Gleneagles Hospitals umbrella.
