WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 22, 2016) - Pepco announced this evening that power to 200 customers who lost power because of an underground equipment failure should be restored by noon tomorrow.

The outage that impacted parts of the Smithsonian, the federal government and some residences was caused by underground equipment failure and at this time heat is not believed to be the cause.

The outage occurred around noon today near 3 and E Street Southwest and Pepco immediately dispatched multiple crews to the site to work underground.

Pepco has already contacted specific customers impacted by the outage to provide updates and alert them to the restoration process.

As always, crews will continue to work around the clock until all customers are restored. Pepco has dispatched its mobile command site to the area and will be providing updates in real time as they become available.

Pepco is also assisting some of the effected agencies and is working to supply a portable generator to the residential customers who lost power.
