MAYS LANDING, N.J. (June 21, 2016) - Atlantic City Electric (ACE) is working as safely and quickly as possible to restore service to customers in Cape May County that lost power due to the severe thunderstorm that affected the company's service territory this afternoon. Customers should prepare for the possibility of an outage that lasts more than one day.

Crews are continuing to assess the damage to the electric infrastructure and the company will provide an estimated restoration time once the assessments are complete. Crews will work throughout the night to restore service to as many customers as possible. In addition to internal crews, ACE has overhead line contractors and crews from its sister utilities available to assist in the restoration effort.

Atlantic City Electric's system in Cape May County was heavily damaged by high winds that brought down wires and damaged utility poles and transformers. Approximately 36,000 customers lost service at the height of the storm in the hardest hit areas of Lower and Middle townships in the county. Crews will work diligently to repair the electric infrastructure damaged by the storm in order to provide power to the remaining customers without service.

Atlantic City Electric encourages customers to have an emergency kit, including a flashlight, battery-powered clock and radio, extra batteries, non-perishable food, manual can opener, bottled water and a list of important phone numbers.

Customers are asked to report any outages and to stay away from any downed wires. To report outages and/or downed wires, please call 1-800-833-7476.

Customers are encouraged to view the status of their outage and estimated time of restoration by visiting atlanticcityelectric.com or through our mobile app, available for download at atlanticcityelectric.com/mobileapp.
