Saka Energy Uses Blackberry Security System to Address Cyber Threats

Saka Energy, a subsidiary of state-owned gas company Perusahaan Gas Negara (IDX:PGAS), also known as PGN, has become the first customer of BlackBerry® Unified Endpoint Manager (UEM). BlackBerry® UEM is software that delivers integrated endpoint management and integrated policy control for a diverse growing mobile workforce.

Tumbur Parlindungan, President Director of Saka Energy, said that in the midst of a mobile workforce environment, the use of data security system is needed to avoid threats, especially cyber attacks. BlackBerry UEM enables companies to improve mobile work convenience, maintain security, and reduce their operational expenses.

"That's why we chose BlackBerry UEM and PGASCOM (PGAS Telekomunikasi Nusantara), since they can provide information confidentiality at every level, with support and integration skills that truly understand the complexity of our business," Tumbur said in Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/06/2017).

BlackBerry UEM enables users to securely manage UEM on major platforms such as Android for Work, Samsung KNOX, iOS, Windows 10, OS X and BlackBerry 10. The use of Blackberry UEM by Saka Energy is a follow up of a new partnership between PGASCOM and Blacberry Limited.

Alex Manea, Chief Security Officer of Blackberry, said the energy sector has become one of the largest industries in Indonesia that could potentially be a cybercrime target. "We are excited to partner with PGASCOM to combine our secure solutions with their expertise to assist Saka Energy and other companies to realize their digital transformation goals," Alex said in Jakarta.

PGASCOM is a subsidiary of PGN focusing on providing telecommunication network services, including fiber optics, internet access, business solutions and services managed for the Indonesian oil and gas industry. "We are the backbone of information technology for many industries in Asia and around the world, so we understand the company's concerns about data security and people safety," said Sri Budi Mayaningsih, President Director of PGASCOM.

According to Maya, cyber security for the oil and gas industry is a significant and continuing challenge. "To that end, as a trusted brand in Indonesia and a leader in software that provides safe and secure operating environment for people and information, we are delighted to partner with BlackBerry to help customers like Saka Energy protect critical infrastructure."

PGASCOM recently joined the BlackBerry Global Enterprise Partner Program. The BlackBerry Partner Program is designed to help partners navigate the ever-changing mobile business environment through secure mobile business solutions for people, their processes, and their data. This helps partners gain new competencies and capabilities that enable them to meet and exceed market demand, ensuring well-equipped partners to successfully design, build, deploy, and support BlackBerry solutions.

About PGN

PGN is a state-owned company formed by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia with the aim of building the national economy by prioritizing the needs of the people towards a just and prosperous society materially and spiritually, as stated in the legal basis of the birth of PGN as stated in President Regulation Number 19 Year 1965.

In carrying out the mandate, PGN has pioneered the development of natural gas pipelines since 1974. It is not easy to pioneer the energy conversion when Indonesia is still experiencing the glory of petroleum production. Yet PGN's struggle has yielded its current results. With over 7,278 kilometers of transmission and distribution pipelines successfully being developed, PGN has successfully channeled natural gas to meet domestic demand equivalent to 23 million liters per day. PGN supplies natural gas to power plants, industries, commercial businesses including restaurants, hotels and hospitals, gas refueling stations, as well as households.

In line with the increasing demand for natural gas in the country with limited resources, PGN continues to seek strategic solutions to ensure supply for consumers and prevent the scarcity of natural gas in some areas. Currently PGN is looking for new gas supplies, especially from locations close to existing infrastructure, and seeks to obtain larger volumes to be allocated for domestic market usage.

In an effort to increase transparency and ease of funding for gas infrastructure development, the Government, in 2003, with the approval of the House of Representatives, took steps to make PGN an open company. Currently the Company is a public state-owned company listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The government owns 56.97% shares in the company, while the remaining 43.03% shares are owned by the public.
