We refer to your letter dated February 1, 2016 requesting for clarification and/or confirmation of the news article entitled "PLOT lowers allocation for digital seli/ices" published in the February 1, 2016 issue of The Philippine Star. The article reported in part that:
''The country's largest telecommunications firm is a/locating around $50 million for partnerships for its digital services portfolio this year with the budget for 2015 yet to be fully utilized.
Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLOT) chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan told reporters the firm's investment arm PLOT Capital is setting this year's budget at an amount less than the $50 million earmarked for last year.
'I think it will be less than that ($50 million),· he said.
We wish to reiterate that key to PLDT's strategy is to fortify its position as the country's leading digital seli/lces provider, including growing its portfolio of partnerships in the global digital space.
In this connection, we estimate that investments by PLOT Capital in the digital space may amount to US$50 million in 2016. However, as the digital space is dynamic, our actual investment will depend on the opportunities available to the group and how these may complement the overall business strategy.
At this time, based on the options under evaluation, we confirm the statement of our Chairman that the actual investments in 2016 may be less than US$50 million.
