Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG, AEX: PHIA) today announced the signing of its 400th licensee - Dotlux GmbH - to its LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs Licensing Program, a growth of 100 licensees since May last year. Philips is committed to fostering LED industry growth and creating a level playing field by giving companies access to its wide portfolio of patented LED system technologies and solutions. By making available more than 210 inventions (comprising over 1200 granted patents), Philips aims to open up new business opportunities and possibilities for companies globally.

Arian Duijvestijn, Senior Vice President and General Manager - Lighting, at Philips Intellectual Property & Standards, said: "We warmly welcome Dotlux as our 400th licensee. This important milestone demonstrates that more and more businesses, from start-ups to larger companies, recognize the value of our offering and that working with us helps to speed up product development, lower costs and advances the industry as a whole. We are pleased that there has been a marked growth in licenses with companies active in single color based applications like outdoor and indoor luminaires and retrofit bulbs. We believe that this open and accessible licensing program assists the adoption of LED based lighting technologies and products worldwide."

Peter Berschneider, Commercial Director at Dotlux GmbH, added: "We are happy to join the licensing program since we clearly see the benefits and respect other companies' intellectual property. Access to the program helps us in our growth because we now can use 210 inventions to further build customer optimized products, which opens up new business opportunities for us. We want to ensure that our customers obtain properly licensed products and encourage other sellers of LED based products to sign up for the program as well."

The signing of the 400th licensee follows earlier agreements between Philips and other companies including TCP, Dextra, Dialight, Cooper, Osram, Neo-Neon and Zumtobel. Through the program, licensees are given access to a wide range of basic LED control and system-level technologies available for use in their branded LED-based luminaires and retrofit bulbs for general illumination, architectural, entertainment and theatrical markets.www.ip.philips.com/licensing/ssl
