2012 was a challenging year for meat producers such as Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN), Smithfield Foods Inc. (NYSE: SFD), Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL), and Pilgrim's Pride Corporation (NASDAQ: PPC) as the worst drought in U.S. history led to higher feed costs. The stock touched an intra-day low of $23.41 before finishing the day 1.08% lower at $23.77 on above average volume of 4.81 million. Tyson Foods' shares have struggled lately. The stock touched an intra-day low of $25.36. Despite the sharp pullback on Monday, Smithfield Foods' shares are currently trading close to their 52-week high of $27.33.
