Pininfarina signs Global Evo, the new coordinate measuring machine by Hexagon Metrology


Better scanning performance, throughput and productivity combined with Italian design


Turin, 6 October 2015 - At the EMO 2015 in Milan, the world machine tool exhibition, Pininfarina and Hexagon Metrology, leading provider of products and services for all industrial metrology applications, launched today Global Evo, the first result of their collaboration.


Global Evo is a new best-in-class coordinate measuring machine, tailored specifically to offer process speed and efficiency to manufacturers requiring accurate tactile scanning and high throughput. Global Evo features significant technological innovations that ensure a performance improvement in terms of speed and accuracy. Pininfarina has worked on the design identity of the machine, aiming to highlight the leading-edge technological content of the project developed by Hexagon Metrology.


The study of the Pininfarina team focused in particular on the vertical measurement axis, a key element in the machine

design. This element has been given a shape clearly derived from the automotive world, with elegant sports lines and surfaces. The elliptical, nearly aerodynamic section of the Z-axis effectively conveys machine speed, while the contrast between the translucent, dark front part and the painted part enhances its dynamism. Under the polycarbonate band, two light strips have been added, which is a further reference to the automotive world. These multi-colour LEDs indicate the machine status from far away. Pininfarina has also reviewed all other machine covers, adding consistency and stability to its aesthetics.
