Update: Plains Midstream Canada continues response to Rangeland
pipeline release (5:00 p.m. MDT)
For Immediate Release
CALGARY, Alberta (June 9, 2012) - Plains Midstream Canada
(Plains) continues activities in response to the June 7th
release from the Rangeland pipeline, near Sundre, Alberta.
The crude oil release has been contained within the two booms
on the Gleniffer Reservoir that were placed yesterday. We are
deploying an additional boom on the west-end of the Gleniffer
Reservoir to expedite our clean-up operations. At peak today,
approximately 90 response personnel were on site.
Plains remains committed to ensuring the safety of community
members and workers, and to minimizing environmental impacts.
We continue to closely monitor air and water quality.
"We deeply regret any impact this incident may have on
local residents. We want to assure you that we are deploying
our resources to contain the release, protect the environment
and respond to your concerns," says Stephen Bart, Vice
President, Crude Oil Operations. "These efforts will
continue until the release clean up is complete and the land
and water are restored."
With support from the Sundre Petroleum Operators Group (SPOG)
and Red Deer County, Plains continues to communicate with
local landowners, including residents located along the Red
Deer River from the town of Sundre to north of Dickson, along
the southern boundary of Gleniffer Reservoir, at the Carefree
Resort and at the Gleniffer Lake Resort & Country Club.
An information centre has been established at the James
River Community Hall. The centre is now available for
residents. Plains staff and representatives from SPOG,
Energy Resources Conservation Board and Alberta Health
Services are on-site to address questions and provide
information on response efforts, environmental protection,
water quality and water delivery options.
For those not able to visit the information centre,
information on response efforts is also available by
calling 1-866-670-8073 toll-free.
