PNE WIND AG commissions and hands over the Sontra wind farm

Cuxhaven, 16th December 2014 - The wind farm project developer, PNE WIND AG, has completed the construction of the "Sontra" (Hessen) wind farm and has handed it over to the buyer, the CHORUS Group. The wind farm has five energy systems with a total nominal output of 12.0 MW. PNE WIND AG developed the wind farm and remains responsible for the technical operational management. Due to the excellent co-operation between all of the stakeholders in the project including in particular the town of Sontra, it was possible to develop the project in only three years with the construction phase being completed in less than 6 months.

The Nordex N117 wind energy systems installed at the "Sontra" wind farm are particularly efficient at inland locations. With hub heights reaching 140.6 meters, the turbines are positioned well to harness the energy out of the wind in this location.

The new wind systems can produce environmentally friendly electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approx. 9,000 four person households and will result in an annual carbon dioxide emission saving of approx. 18,000 tons. The amount of lignite saved annually would fill a 40 kilometres long train.

PNE WIND AG gained substantial new experience during the construction of the "Sontra" wind farm.  The location in the central highland region of northern Hessen was unique due to the challenging geography with gradients of up to 20%. With very narrow roads passing through small towns and forested areas, logistic solutions were required to move the heavy haulage and delivery vehicles into the wind farm site area.  At times, additional traction assistance techniques were required.
