Ponsse Oyj : subsidiary in China celebrates its 10th anniversary

This year, Ponsse China, Ponsse's subsidiary in China, celebrates the 10th anniversary of its operations. Ponsse's story in China started in 2007 when Stora Enso selected a partner for mechanised harvesting.
'When we committed ourselves to working with Stora Enso, we also committed to being close to the customer, following the principles of Ponsse. As a result, it was clear that we would establish a subsidiary in the Guangxi region in southern China. Over ten years, we have built a culture and expertise in mechanical harvesting here,' says Risto Kääriäinen, managing director of Ponsse China Ltd.

In addition to machine deliveries and maintenance and spare parts services, Ponsse China offers operator training to its customers. For Stora Enso, the company has trained more than 180 forest machine operators during ten years.

Pioneering to find the best solutions

The Ponsse China organisation has grown and now employs 28 people. Over ten years, harvesting has mainly shifted to steep slopes. As a result, the majority of the new machine stock consists of winch-equipped machines designed for steep terrain.

Risto Kääriäinen, managing director of Ponsse China, says that Ponsse has been a pioneer in many ways. 'When people talk about mechanical harvesting in China, they talk about PONSSE forest machines. Today, we offer technology and service ideal for local conditions.'

The 10th anniversary of Ponsse China was celebrated in Beihai at the end of last week. In addition to Ponsse's local customers and partners, Ponsse's customers from Sweden and China took part in the festivities.
