POSCO E&C announced on Sept. 26 that the Vietnam HUE general hospital construction project achieved a zero-accident rate for 1 million hours.

The 35.7 billion won project, constructed by POSCO E&C and medical appliances supplied by Samsung C&T, will consist of seven hospital wards with total capacity of 502 beds, scheduled for completion by May 2012.

In particular, the project is expected to increase economic cooperation with Vietnam, as the funding for the hospital was extended through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of the Korea Exim Bank.

POSCO E&C stressed safety as top priority and carried out safety campaigns catering to local needs. Extensive training sessions were held to raise workers` understanding on safety activities with a special focus to promote team building.

The company aims to keep the construction site accident free throughout the schedule.

Last year, POSCO E&C achieved an accident rate of 0.07 percent, the lowest among the top 10 leading domestic constructors.

Since making inroads into Vietnam in 1995, POSCO E&C has been extensively involved in various construction projects, building an elementary school in the central region, vaccine manufacturing center for the Green Cross, a children`s hospital in Qungnam and donating a kindergarten building in Vinhphuc province, playing a key role in Vietnam`s industrial development and social contribution.
