Criteria

The research is based on billions of data entries on postal traffic, processed annually by the Universal Postal Union. The 173 postal companies were assessed on four criteria:
  • The reliability of delivery;
  • The degree of connection with other postal companies and partners;
  • The demand for the total portfolio of postal services and
  • The organisation's capacity to innovate and move with the changing market.
PostNL outperformed specifically with its quick delivery times and effective processing of large volumes of international post.

Reliable

According to the report, PostNL showed a balanced and consistent performance in 2017. PostNL's ranking improved from fourth position in 2016 to second position in 2017. 'The speed of delivery and the volumes PostNL generates with international partners place it among the most reliable and interconnected postal companies in the world', according to the Union.

The Universal Postal Union

The Universal Postal Union was founded in 1874. Nearly all countries are affiliated to The Universal Postal Union, with a total of 192 participating countries. Together with the Universal Postal Union, these countries reach agreements on postal traffic all over the world. On the quality of post processing, for example. And on the costs of certain services. Or security, for example. Other subjects of discussion include barcodes and tracking & tracing.
