PITTSBURGH, May 25, 2016 - PPG (NYSE:PPG) announced that ENVIROCRON® epoxy-based powder coatings are now certified to the ANSI/NSF 61 standard for drinking-water components, which means that manufacturers of metal pipes, tanks, fittings, valves and faucets can specify them for parts that contact drinking water, drinking-water chemicals or both.

Shelley Verdun, PPG product manager, powder coatings, said the certification enables PPG to fulfill requests for high-performance water- and food-safe powder coatings. Envirocron coatings have been NSF 51-certified for non-direct food contact applications for many years. 'The new ANSI/NSF 61 certification will enable us to serve a broader universe of customers seeking durable, safe and attractive coatings for their products,' she explained.

ANSI/NSF 61-certified Envirocron powder coatings are available as one- and two-coat systems with cure times ranging from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the coating and type of application.

Last year, DURAFORM® AP clear liquid coil coatings by PPG were certified to the ANSI/NSF 51 standard for non-direct food contact applications, joining DURACRON® white acrylic coatings, which have been certified to ANSI/NSF 51 for many years. Food equipment manufacturers frequently use ANSI/NSF 51-certified coatings for appliances, icemakers, backsplashes, shelving, refrigerated trucks, display cases and other food service equipment.
