MOUNT VERNON, Ill., Jan. 10, 2017 - Quality Supervisor Steve Smith of the PPG industrial coatings plant in Mount Vernon, Illinois, sponsored a PPG Foundation grant for more than $500 to support a student-led technology initiative at Wayne City High School. The grant funds were used to purchase two broadcast headsets and an audio mixing board, used here by students along with computer-based editing tools, to produce podcasts, game broadcasting and announcements.

'The grants that we are able to sponsor through the PPG Foundation are making an impact in area schools by funding projects like this that are focused on technology, engineering, science and mathematics,' Smith said. 'This project is unique because the technology and engineering concepts that students are learning has immediate real-world uses, and the feedback they get for their audio productions excites them to learn more about the technology.'

The PPG Foundation aims to bring color and brightness to PPG communities in the United States. By investing in educational opportunities, we help grow today's skilled workforce and develop tomorrow's innovators in industries related to coatings and specialty materials. Plus, we empower PPG employees to make an impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volunteer efforts and charitable giving.
