PITTSBURGH, May 21, 2012 - PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG)
announced that SUNGATE(R) 600 glass, a passive,
low-emissivity (low-e) solar control glass that can help
dual-pane windows achieve R-5 insulating performance, has
been named one of the 50 "hot" products of 2012 by the
editors of Green Builder Magazine.
Chosen in the "Doors, Windows and Hardware" category,
Sungate 600 passive solar control, low-e glass is
designed for residential windows in colder,
heating-dominated climates. When used on the fourth surface
of an insulating glass unit (IGU), with SOLARBAN(R) 60
glass on the second surface and 1/2-inch airspace in
between, Sungate 600 glass enables IGUs to yield
R-5 center-of-glass insulating performance.
The R-5 performance standard is being emphasized in federal
legislation and adopted in building codes to improve the
energy efficiency of single-family homes and multifamily
residential buildings. PPG's dual-pane, dual-coat
technology enables window manufacturers to make R-5 windows
without multi-cavity IGUs, which can complicate the
manufacturing process and add to the cost of windows for
builders, remodelers and homeowners.
