CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 14, 2017) - Premier Inc., a leading healthcare improvement company, has tapped its Chief Health Information Officer, Mimi Huizinga, MD, to drive its life sciences strategy forward.

A physician executive with more than ten years of quality improvement experience, Dr. Huizinga will lead the day to day operations of Premier's life sciences projects, as well as serve as a national spokesperson for Premier research and capabilities.

'There is an increasing need for real-world evidence that sets new standards for therapies that improve the health of targeted patient populations,' said Dr. Huizinga. Dr. Huizinga will build on Premier's life sciences strategy to further connect objective data and analysis with real-world evidence generation to test effective care interventions that improve patient care and wellness, and lower healthcare spending.

By combining clinical data and the testing of real-world interventions within healthcare organizations in partnership with life sciences companies, Premier seeks to bring science to the evaluation of population health interventions that truly deliver improved outcomes at a better cost.

Dr. Huizinga is an internist, epidemiologist and leader in achieving clinical excellence. She is well-versed in strategy, change management, performance improvement, informatics and large-dataset analytics. As the clinical leader in Premier's Information Technology Services, Dr. Huizinga ensures that Premier's information technology products and services meet the evolving needs of healthcare systems. Dr. Huizinga also serves as the translator between clinical, informatics and technology, finance and administrative teams to enable consensus-driven tactics that achieve meaningful results. She is a proven leader that has designed and delivered national programs effectively and efficiently, blending concepts of scale and accountability.

Dr. Huizinga is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a part-time faculty member at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has previously held positions with Vanderbilt University, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, LifePoint Health, and McKinsey & Co.
