Principal Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: PFG) announced that its Board of Directors has approved an authorization for the repurchase of up to $150 million worth of the company’s outstanding common stock.
The repurchases will be made in the open market or through privately-negotiated transactions, from time to time, depending on market conditions. The stock repurchase program may be modified, extended or terminated at any time by the Board of Directors. Principal Financial Group, Inc. has 293.5 million shares of common stock outstanding as of Sept. 30, 2015.
“The authorization is an acceleration of our 2016 capital deployment plan, allowing us to continue to repurchase shares opportunistically. This action reflects our continued confidence in the underlying fundamentals of our businesses and in our ability to generate ongoing growth into 2016 and beyond,” says Dan Houston, president and chief executive officer of The Principal®. “Year to date, we’ve generated nearly $1 billion in both total company operating earnings and net income. The strength of our capital position and the flexibility of our fee-based business model enable us to deploy capital in a variety of ways that continuously generate long-term value for shareholders.”
