FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Procera Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: PKT), the global Subscriber Experience company, announced today that PacketLogic/V, Procera's NFV software solution, has demonstrated theoretical maximum performance running on Intel® Xeon® processor E5, Intel Xeon processor E5 v2, and Intel Xeon processor E5 v3-based commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) platforms, eliminating performance barriers associated with deploying NFV solutions.

"Today's results are significant to our customers and the NFV community," said James Brear, president and CEO at Procera. "Not only have we demonstrated on Intel technology that high-performance applications such as PacketLogic(TM) can successfully perform as software-only solutions, but our customers now have a choice in deploying PacketLogic as hardware or software with no performance penalty."

This performance was achieved through participation in the Intel Network Builders program and was focused on demonstrating that high-performance NFV applications can be successfully deployed on Intel® architecture-based COTS platforms.

"We are excited to see companies including Procera bring their solutions to Intel® architecture-based platforms," said John Healy, general manager Intel Software Defined Networking Division. "Optimizing compute-sensitive network functions for Intel technologies like these is key to realizing the full benefits of software-defined infrastructures."

Additionally, as part of the Intel Network Builders program, Procera intends to continue performance optimization of PacketLogic/V software ensuring that Procera solutions are optimized to deploy on Intel® Open Network Platform Server Reference Design systems. These results will be contributed to the NFV Community via a white paper entitled "Optimizing NFV Performance with OVS-DPDK". Procera intends to demonstrate proof of concept environments leading to potential deployments of Procera solutions on Intel technology.

The performance testing consisted of side-by-side instances of test systems based on multiple generations of Intel Xeon processor-based systems. The test utilized the new Intel Xeon processor E5 2600 v3, running PacketLogic/V software in a virtual machine with 4x10 10Gbps Ethernet connections. The PacketLogic/V software had a complete complement of traffic detection and management rules enabled, simulating a real world deployment, and line rate traffic was sent into the VNF. In each case the PacketLogic/V software performed at bare metal rates and was able to achieve maximum throughput of all of the available Ethernet interfaces in the system.

Note: Software and workloads used in performance tests may have been optimized for performance only on Intel microprocessors. Performance tests, such as SYSmark and MobileMark, are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products.
