Progress (NASDAQ: PRGS), the leading provider of application development and deployment technologies, today announced that Triodos Bank, one of the world’s leading sustainable banks, rebuilt its mobile presence and expanded its multi-channel customer experience with NativeScript®, the open-source framework for building truly native cross-platform applications. With the framework, Triodos also improved the efficiency of its development efforts.

In the financial industry, offering a seamless user experience across multiple channels has become a necessity for staying competitive and attracting and retaining customers. Triodos Bank’s existing mobile application was outdated and in an effort to improve customer engagement, reinforce its brand messaging and differentiate itself from competitors, it decided to revamp its digital experience with the NativeScript framework.

With the NativeScript framework using Angular, the developers on the Triodos team could fully reuse their web skills and share code to build high-performance, cross-platform applications. Having a single codebase for the different applications enabled them to spend more time developing unique and innovative features instead of rebuilding the apps for each platform. Capabilities including native API access and backend REST APIs ensured easy integration and high scalability.

“We have a small team of developers. To create a comprehensive multi-channel digital ecosystem that delivers a rich customer experience for both Android and iOS, we needed a powerful tool to speed and simplify the development process,” explained Winfred Van Egteren, Component Architect, Triodos Bank. “With the NativeScript framework, we leveraged our existing web skills to build native apps without the heavy time and technology investment necessary for traditional iOS/Android native development.”

Triodos Bank’s mobile applications provide customers with typical digital banking capabilities (such as account balances and money transfer options) along with unique content and features. Since the goal of Triodos Bank is making its money work for positive social, environmental and cultural change, customers can track which organizations the financial institution is lending to and where their money is being used to create a positive impact. In addition, the application has a gift address book feature that enables customers to easily make donations to charities and nonprofit organizations.

“With more than one million downloads, the NativeScript framework is quickly becoming the preferred mobile application development framework of developers around the world. It enables them to build beautiful and high-quality apps, exceeding customers’ expectations, while making their developers far more productive,” said Dmitri Tcherevik, CTO, Progress. “Triodos Bank is a great example of how a big organization with a complex environment can leverage the framework to quickly deliver on a project of great importance for the business.”

Developed and supported by Progress, NativeScript is a powerful and agile open-source framework for creating truly native cross-platform apps with Angular, TypeScript or JavaScript. Designed to provide significant code reuse, it dramatically reduces development efforts by enabling developers to leverage their existing skills. With its adoption growing rapidly, the NativeScript framework has empowered organizations across different industries and individual developers to build beautiful, accessible, platform-native user interfaces.
