Unterföhring, October 10, 2017. For the first time in the history of German television, ProSiebenSat.1 will unify augmented reality with linear broadcast TV. Starting on the 6th of November 2017, the leading science program 'Galileo' on the channel ProSieben will kick a new era of broadcast television by dedicating a full week of the daily program to what is known as augmented reality 2.0.

ProSieben's General Manager Daniel Rosemann said: 'With 'Galileo', we have always pioneered new technologies on TV. For its innovative approach, the show won the German Television Award 2017. With augmented reality, we are again embracing leadership and a new dimension of TV. This new technology will make 'Galileo' reports even more engaging. You can also enjoy it if you are - like me - not a tech geek. In fact, it probably helps.'

With this initiative, ProSiebenSat.1 continues its strategy to constantly make use of new opportunities in digitalization in all its business segments and to push ahead with technological innovations. By integrating augmented reality into a linear broadcast TV program, ProSiebenSat.1 is heading into a new dimension of TV aiming to make the TV experience for its viewers more powerful and relevant. The overall aim is to increase viewing time of the program.

To experience broadcast TV of the future, viewers only need a smartphone and the 'Galileo' augmented reality app. This new app has been developed by the German start-up 'eyecandylab' especially for this program. By using the app, viewers will see additional information and animations on their smartphone screen.

A very impressive example will be shown in a report about the Indian Maharajas' Express train. The app will let the train travel beyond the TV and will let it continue its journey through the living room. The viewers can also follow the train's route through India on a map floating next to their TV.

The 'Galileo augmented reality week' starts on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 7:05 p.m. on ProSieben in Germany.
