EVENT:The Positive Community magazine focusing on “Good News from the Church and the Community” is the only faith-based lifestyle magazine targeting the African American consumer in the New York/New Jersey market. The 1st Annual Positive Community Awards & Gala, sponsored by Prudential Financial, will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014, at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka will accept The Gus Heningburg Award for Excellence in Community Service, on behalf of his late father, the renowned poet and advocate Amiri Baraka. With more than 250 other luminaries and local leaders from the tri-state area expected to attend, it’s all to celebrate The Positive Community magazine’s 15th anniversary of publication and to recognize community members who enhance the lives of others throughout the region.

Honorees for The Positive Community Awards are Dr. Ursula Daniels, Education; Lowell Hawthorne, Business; Terrie M. Williams, Health; and United Missionary Baptist Association of New York, Faith. In addition, TPC will present The Positive Community Choice Award to three everyday citizens who have made significant contributions to their community. The 1st Annual Positive Community Awards & Gala is sponsored by Prudential Financial, a corporation that takes pride in highlighting the community building efforts of urban communities and the people who represent them.
