Uptrend in stock market likely in the second quarter

Stocks struggled in late April and early May, but according to John Praveen, chief investment strategist at Prudential International Investments Advisers, investors should see improvement. "Drivers such as further aggressive stimulus in China, the European Central Bank continuing its QE bond buying program and expectations of Federal Reserve rate hikes being revised down make us feel more confident that stock markets remain in an uptrend," says Praveen.

Globally, Praveen points to the upside growth surprise in the Eurozone during the first quarter and expects the region's GDP to strengthen further in the second quarter, thanks to a rebound in Germany. Further, "the earnings outlook is good in the Eurozone and Japan due to the weak currency tailwinds," he notes.
