National Retirement Security Week: A time to take charge of retirement savings

National Retirement Security Week, the first congressionally endorsed national event promoting retirement savings and encouraging employees to take advantage of employer-sponsored plans, 'is a good opportunity for Americans to take charge of their retirement savings by employing the tools at their disposal and seeking professional guidance in preparing for retirement,' says Rodney Branch, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Prudential Annuities.
Currently, the preparedness numbers aren't encouraging. According to a 2013 survey conducted by the Employee Benefit Research Institute, six out of 10 baby boomers feel unprepared for retirement.
'Prudential has a long history of educating Americans about the importance of retirement preparedness and helping them achieve their financial goals. We do so by offering tools and resources they can use as they plan for a more secure retirement,' says Branch.
Among the tools that could help is Prudential Annuities' interactive website, IncomeCertainty.com. The site-which users can access via a laptop, mobile phone or tablet-offers educational videos and other resources plus information from industry experts, including AARP, Insured Retirement Institute and the Social Security Administration.
Branch also notes that companies are continuously developing innovative solutions to help Americans build a more secure retirement via several avenues, including individual savings and investments, Social Security, retirement products and employer-sponsored plans.
'We (financial services companies) need to empower Americans with knowledge that can help them work with a financial professional to take the next step in planning for retirement,' says Branch.
