Senior-cycle students from Mulroy College in Milford got a glimpse of the business world when Pramerica Systems Ireland Limited, a software and contact centre subsidiary of U.S.-based Prudential Financial, Inc. (PFI) [NYSE:PRU], opened its doors to give them a guided tour . The initiative is part of The Schools’ Business Partnership’s “Skills @ Work Programme”, which is managed by Business in the Community Ireland. The site visit gave students the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in the information and communication technology, and financial services industries.

“We’re delighted to give these students the chance to explore potential career paths by learning more about what we do at Pramerica each day. Our employees have worked with these students as part of the Skills @ Work Programme and we’re committed to helping them recognise the value of completing the Leaving Certificate,” said Martin Davies, a lead specialist platform engineer at Pramerica.

In addition to the site visit, The Skills @ Work Programme provides resume workshops, mock interviews, company overviews, interview skill building techniques, workplace etiquette information and teambuilding instruction.

“The Skills @ Work Programme helps our students make the connection between education and future opportunity. The site visit, in particular, exposes them to career possibilities, opens their eyes to what various jobs entail and gives them educational goals,” said Catherine Crawford, a career guidance teacher at Mulroy College.

“The site visit is always one of the highlights for the students. It shows them important skills such as workplace etiquette and expected behaviour in a professional environment, which can be an adjustment for students who are transitioning to the work environment. We’re glad Pramerica is involved in the programme, and we look forward to further strengthening the ties between Pramerica and Mulroy College over the coming year.” said Elaine McFadden, regional coordinator, Donegal, Business in the Community Ireland.
