PSItraffic depot management system automates bus depots

Berlin, 9 July 2014 - The Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HOCHBAHN) bus operations successfully launched the PSItraffic depot management system (DMS) from PSI Transcom GmbH in the Hummelsbüttel bus depot in the beginning of June. Hummelsbüttel is the first of a total of six depots that will be equipped with PSItraffic/BMS. The ramp ups of the depots in Mesterkamp, Harburg and Wandsbek have already commenced and will be completed one after the other. The depots Harburg 2 and Langenfelde will follow after construction is completed this year and next.

In 2011, PSI Transcom was commissioned by HanseCom GmbH, as the general contractor with the delivery, installation and launch of the PSItraffic/BMS for the five bus depots at the HOCHBAHN. With the operation of the PSI system, the disposition of the vehicles at the depots will become automated. This includes the optimised controlling and handling of the vehicle supply, which, amongst other things, includes the fuelling of the vehicles depending on their mileage. To optimise the disposition, PSI is employing the Qualicision® module, which is already in use in other public transportation companies.

Along with guaranteeing a fast exchange of information between the workshops and the bus depot operated by a HOCHBAHN subsidiary, PSI is also implementing the complete tracking of the vehicles at all of the bus depots. One of the project's special challenges is to include the diverse information and controlling systems in the new system.

There are also improvements for the drivers in the operational process, especially through information (departure boards and entry displays with parking places) and consideration of individual requirements for the vehicles.

Ulrike Riedel, member of the executive board responsible for human resources and operations at HOCHBAHN says: "Only if everything in the background works correctly, we can offer our customers the highest quality. With up to 200 vehicles per depot, the new system will support the work of dispatchers in the depots. In the coming year all HOCHBAHN depots will be equipped with the new system."

Torsten Vogel, Managing Director of PSI Transcom: "We are proud to have the HOCHBAHN as a customer that is one of the largest and innovative transportation companies in Germany. With our PSItraffic/DMS we are once again proving with this project that an IT solution that can be flexibly adapted to the customer's processes is an essential tool for a cost-conscious and modern public transportation company."

HanseCom GmbH is a joint venture of the Siemens AG and the HOCHBAHN. The company focuses on providing IT consulting services to companies in the field of public transportation. HanseCom is the responsible service provider for DP operations at HOCHBAHN and has been contracted for the procurement and introduction of the system.

Hamburger Hochbahn AG is, with over 4,500 employees and about 1.2 million passengers daily, the second largest local public transportation company in Germany and the largest partner in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV). The HOCHBAHN is a wholly owned company of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety.
