PT Astra International Tbk : Astra Launches Program in Appreciation of the Nation?s Sons and Daughters

JAKARTA (Monday, 15 August 2011): Today, PT Astra International Tbk (?Astra?) launched its program Astra?s Appreciation for the Nation?s Sons and Daughters with an aim to motivate and inspire the young generation to keep contributing to Indonesia leading to the upcoming Youth Pledge Day on 28 October 2011. 

This appreciation program consists of three parts: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Days ? Astra?s Appreciation for the Community; SATU (Astra?s Unified Spirit for) Indonesia Award ? Astra?s Appreciation for members of the nation?s young generation; and PORSE Astra (Sports and Arts Event) for all Astra Group employees across Indonesia. The series of appreciation program will take place on 28-30 October 2011 at Soemantri Brojonegoro Sports Hall in Kuningan, Jakarta.

CSR Days 2011

Astra, in cooperation with the Association of Indonesian Eye Specialists (Perdami), conducted cataract surgery for 100 less fortunate people at Jakarta?s Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. On that occasion, Astra also gave out spectacles to less privileged elementary school students. In addition, the company launched green lifestyle campaign through distribution of 3,000 trees and green lifestyle booklets, blood donation program (road to 55.000 blood packets in commemoration of Astra?s 55th Anniversary in February 2012), and Social Enterprise Business Competition in which 100 participants took part. Furthermore, Astra also held CSR Expo-Income Generating Activities (IGA) developed by Astra Group, funding for posyandu (integrated health posts) development program and rolling fund for independent entrepreneurs. 

SATU Indonesia Award

The SATU Indonesia Award program has entered its second year awarding recognitions to members of the country?s young generation who makes positive contributions to the surrounding communities in Education, Technology, Environment, Health, and Entrepreneurship sectors. Nomination of award recipients will take place until 5 September 2011, followed by selection, verification, and judging processes. Meanwhile, the award presentation ceremony will take place on 30 October 2011 at Soemantri Brojonegoro Sports Hall in Kuningan area, Jakarta.

For the SATU Indonesia Award program, Astra joins hands with Tempo Inti Media. Detailed information on the program can be viewed at www.satu-indonesia.com.

SATU Indonesia Award Nomination Terms & Conditions:

? Candidates must be between 20 ? 35 years of age when participating in the program

? Individual (not group), maximum age limit: 35 years

? Ideas, concepts, and activities must be original

? Sustainability of the activities, has been running for a minimum of 2 years 

? Preferably those that have not been exposed to the media

? Not an employee of Astra Group and Tempo Inti Media Group

The nomination process will be conducted in a transparent manner, both through social media networks and Astra Group Area Coordinators in the regions and Tempo Correspondent network throughout Indonesia. Numerous non-governmental organizations, young community activists, educational psychologists, and practitioners of youth community development programs will also be involved in the nomination process.

Members of the public can directly participate in the SATU Indonesia Award program, starting from nominating the candidates for the awards to supporting them through public voting and by spreading the news about SATU Indonesia through ?Sebar SATU Indonesia? on social media networks (Facebook ID: Semangat Astra Terpadu, Twitter: @SATU_Indonesia)

The SATU Indonesia Award program will select five best winners and one Public Vote winner. 

  1. Below are brief profiles of the 2010 SATU Indonesia Award winners:

    A?ak Abdullah Al-kudus pioneered the birth of a volunteer organization to nurse the forest at Mount Lemongan back to its natural condition. He just could not ignore the critical condition of the Mount Lemongan. He gathered tens of youth and asked them to join him in planting trees and caring for the environment.  ?Laskar Hijau? (the green warriors) is the name of the volunteer group, which carries a mission to save the environment.

  2. Amilia Agustin proved that caring for the environment is not an adults-only affair. Triggered by her anxiety upon seeing a pile of garbage in the vicinity of her school, Amilia Agustin was inspired to establish a school-based waste management community through a program called ?Go to Zero Waste School.?
  3. Muhammad Farid, in 2005 managed to establish Green Elementary and Junior High Schools under the auspices of Banyuwangi Islamic School Foundation on a 3,000-sq.meter plot of land. There are a total of 70 students studying in those schools.
  4. Sri Irdayati, with an obsession to produce entrepreneurs since early age. Through programs that she developed, Bizz4Kids and Bizz4teens, she has started to teach business and management knowledge to elementary school students since three years ago.
  5. Mansetus Kalimantan Balawala, familiarly known as Mans, cares about health problems in the country?s remote areas. Mans gathered youth and asked them to join him in transporting village midwives and paramedics using motorcycles so as to facilitate them in their efforts to tend to villagers in challenging terrain.

PORSE Astra (Sports and Arts Event)

The biennial program has an objective to boost the synergy and spirit of Astra Group employees across Indonesia in order to accomplish the excellent achievements through sports and arts. The sports event comprises 17 branches of sports competitions such as futsal, basket ball, volley ball, badminton, long march, table tennis, tennis, 5K run, bowling, and fun bike ride; while the arts event comprises photography, poster making, fun trivia quiz game, parody, band festival, vocal group, and dance competitions involving 6,000 participants and 15,000 supporters.

Prijono Sugiarto, President Director of PT Astra International Tbk explained: ?The entire Astra?s Appreciation for the Nation?s Sons and Daughters program is under the umbrella of SATU Indonesia initiative ? a collection of Astra Group CSR activities inspired by the spirit of unity of all the elements of Astra Group, both as employees and the nation?s sons and daughters to bring Indonesia forward and to achieve the unity of Indonesia towards a prosperous and dignified nation.? Prijono said that the initiative is consistent with Astra?s Catur Dharma philosophy (to be an Asset to the Nation) and Astra?s Corporate Aim (to Prosper with the Nation).
