Qtel today confirmed that all Hala BlackBerry customers will
have the final refund for excess data charges credit to their
account on 12 June, as the company has delivered on its promise
to provide refunds at the end of every week over the past month
for Hala BlackBerry customers. Shahry BlackBerry customers will
be refunded on their next monthly bill, depending on their
billing cycle.
Qtel took the decision to refund excess data charges for all
BlackBerry customers in May, after Qtel's action in correcting
a billing issue meant that some customers received unexpected
charges for excess data usage. The refund process has also
proved to be an effective tool in helping customers understand
the data allowance that comes with their particular BlackBerry
package.
From 12 June, all Hala and Shahry customers will return to the
standard data allowance provided in their BlackBerry package,
and excess data allowance charges will be applied as usual.
Along with the added-value provided to customers under its
Customer Charter, Qtel also today updated the information on
its website and customer service areas to enable customers to
enjoy the best value from their BlackBerry experience.
Users who regularly exceed their data allowance users can get
more from their device with one of Qtel's Shahry Mobile
Internet Packs, which range from QR15 per month, and offer 50
MB of data, up to the Unlimited Pack, which provides unlimited
BlackBerry support for QR400 per month.
Qtel also offers Hala Mobile Internet Packs, which provide a
fixed amount of data for a set period of time and are available
for as little as QR10 for one week and 50 MB.
Customers who are unsure about which Mobile Internet Pack is
best for them can visit a Qtel Shop or speak to the Qtel Call
Centre, where customer advisors can help them enjoy the best
value.
As a data-driven service, BlackBerry smartphones use data
whenever customers download images, watch videos or
send/receive e-mail or BBM messages. When customers use their
BlackBerry device, data is deducted from their allowance, so
it's worth being sure they have the right package for their
daily needs. Standard services like texting through BBM don't
consume a lot of data, but streaming, such as video and audio,
and major file transfers can consume a significant proportion
of data allowances.
One option for BlackBerry enthusiasts is to balance their
usage between the Qtel Data network and Wi-Fi services. Most of
the BlackBerry devices have a Wi-Fi option, and data traffic
over Wi-Fi is not deducted from the user's balance.
By using Wi-Fi services at home or in public places to
download big files and stream videos, customers can ensure that
they can optimise their allowance usage.
Qtel is committed to providing the widest range of channels
for customers to check their balance at any time. Hala
customers can send "Balance BB" to 121, and receive an
automatic update, or dial *121*1# and check their balance from
an automated menu. Shahry customers can call 111.
In addition, all customers receive SMS to let them know when
they have used 80 percent of their BB allowance, and 100
percent.
There are also a number of applications on BlackBerry App
World which can be downloaded for free, and which provide a
usage metre to monitor how much data is being consumed.
Qtel continues to offer consistent pricing and data allowance
for its BlackBerry customers, who receive 250 MBs of data
allowance every week on the basic Hala package. Qtel Shahry
customers can receive 1GB of data for QR60 per month. Data
consumption beyond the agreed allowance charged at only QR0.55
per MB.
