Qlik® (NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in data discovery, today announced it will host a Hackathon (http://go.qlik.com/Customer-Conference-Hackathon.html) competition with global challenges from the United Nations as part of the company’s Qlik World Conference 2014, which takes place November 17 – 20 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando.

“We are pleased to work together with Qlik for the Hackathon at the Qlik World Conference 2014,” said José Luis Díaz of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs. “By presenting our real-world data challenges to some of the best and brightest in the industry, we anticipate innovative solutions, insightful applications and beautiful visualizations that will greatly impact our daily operations and help us better serve the individuals and communities that need us most.”

Ms. Atefeh Riazi, Assistant Secretary-General stated, “As Chief Information Technology Officer of the United Nations, I would like to see more innovative technology supporting the work of our Organization. The Office of Information and Communications Technology is committed to collaborating on solutions that transform the way the United Nations delivers on its mandates.”

What:

Qlik, together with its co-organizers from the United Nations, Attivio, Twitter, and HP Vertica, will invite developers, technologists and experts from around the world to collaborate and engage with data to design solutions for United Nations challenges globally. Leveraging Qlik® Sense, participants will be challenged to create an extraordinary and useful app based on unique United Nations and social media datasets as well as Qlik Sense APIs. Every Hackathon participant will have hands-on access to Qlik Sense and its new capabilities in web integration, with ‘live’ enablement and support from internal Qlik experts. As a result of the event, the United Nations will gain solutions to help its efforts to prevent conflict.
Qlik will also open its doors to its Midnight Madness contest. Midnight Madness is a contest that has been created to discover the very best app building skills, visualization greatness and development talent, using Qlik Sense capabilities and functionalities. Contestants will form teams of two, three, or four developer fanatics, demo experts, or app magicians that are ready to push the boundaries on a user adoption business scenario. Each team will be provided with a scenario, a data file, clear requirements and the challenge to create the ultimate self-service visualization app – all within the three-hour Midnight Madness timeframe.
