Qlik® (NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in visual analytics, today announced that SNCF, France’s national state-owned railway company that manages the rail traffic in France and the Principality of Monaco, has selected Qlik to optimize its HR and workforce management. Qlik helps SNCF tie together siloed HR systems, making key data more visible to support better collaborative decision-making and solving business problems related to staff.

Before choosing Qlik, SNCF performed most analyses with Excel spreadsheets that were powered by fragmented HR systems. Not only did these analyses not provide the whole story at a detailed level, they were also driven by a few select users. SNCF decided to rethink its HR business intelligence (BI) and analytics needs with the goal of empowering employees with easy access to data to support better decisions. Therefore, the company needed an intuitive, user-friendly, and fast solution to meet this requirement.

“We wanted a solution that would enable our users to answer questions in the data that have not been addressed and that would encourage them to ask the next question to see the complete picture,” explains Hervé Genty, Project Management Labor Analytics. “We also knew that the software had to be easily adaptable to accommodate rapid organizational changes. Qlik’s ease of use, design capabilities, performance, and integrated data management capabilities sealed the deal for us.”

The first Qlik application created by SNCF analyzes absenteeism with visualization indicators on an interactive map. Additional applications monitor the population against agent resources and payroll. “This type of analysis enables true predictive employment management,” commented Genty. “By viewing the peaks on age groups in certain areas, it is possible to anticipate necessary training and recruitment. Before Qlik, this type of analysis was very laborious, or simply impossible.”

“Organizations like SNCF are quickly realizing that the ability to drive greater value from their information can be a true differentiator. In other words, it is their analytic capabilities as much as their business processes that will make them successful in the marketplace,” said James Fisher, vice president of global product marketing at Qlik. “With Qlik, businesses can see the whole story that lives within their data and as a result drive insight across the organization, enabling everyone to do their jobs smarter and faster than ever.”

Today, Qlik is empowering everyone at SNCF to benefit from the opportunity to explore data and answer new questions as they arise. Users are specifically fond of Qlik’s session sharing capability, which allows them to access and exchange ideas around an analysis with another user in a collaborative mode.
