By giving money to employees rather than asking for money, the
company creatively raised 15x original fundraising goal
Dedicated to positively impacting people around the world, QlikTech,
(NASDAQ: QLIK)
a leader in Business Discovery - user-driven Business Intelligence (BI),
this week announced that its employees helped exceed its fundraising
goal by supporting its Change Their World program partner HOPEHIV,
a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and young
adults affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
The employee-driven initiative was part of HOPEHIV's 1010
Challenge, where Phil Wall, founder of HOPEHIV, gave 1,000
QlikTech employees $10 in cash and challenged them to turn it into 10x
that ($100) in 10 weeks. Employees began the challenge in January at
QlikTech's annual all employee meeting where they were encouraged to
invest the $10 and "use who they are" to make it more. There were
raffles, dinner parties, poker nights, bake sales, yard sales, Super
Bowl pools, and a QlikBay auction site. Employees' creative activities
ranged from:
-
Hosting a partner-sponsored event in NYC where QlikView services were
auctioned and training was donated;
-
Organizing a charity run in a German hometown with 300 people and 167
registered runners;
-
Convincing an Aboriginal Artist to donate a painting, using the money
for paint and canvas;
-
Finding a bag of yarn at Goodwill for $8 and asking a sister-in-law to
knit hats;
-
Buying ingredients for tea and an Indian appetizer, hosting a cooking
class for $10 each;
-
Arranging a Playstation Singstar challenge to raise $150;
-
Sponsoring donations pounds of weight lost over the 10 weeks, which
totaled 17; and
-
Raising almost £400 for a "Marathon on a Treadmill" fundraiser at a
local UK fitness club.
"I'm so proud of the creativity and hard work our people committed to
raise funds for HOPEHIV's important mission," said Lars Björk,
CEO, QlikTech. "Making a positive impact on the world is something we
strive for, and this effort reinforces the culture at QlikTech -
positive, compassionate and dedicated to teamwork. When I heard about HOPEHIV's
disruptive approach, flipping the model to fundraising and focusing on
individuals that can each make an impact I knew they were a perfect
match for us."
QlikTech's adoption of HOPEHIV's 1010 Challenge was so
successful that the program was rolled out to nearly 1,000 QlikTech's
partner attendees at the Qonnections Partner Summit. That challenge
commenced in April and will wrap up at the end of June.
"Although we have done the 1010 Challenge before by giving
out cash, we have never done it to this scale with a single corporation
in one room. The power of harnessing the goodwill of everyone there was
something to watch. QlikTech is a special company - they entered this
initiative with a mixture of enthusiasm and kindness that is rarely
found," said Phil Wall, founder, HOPEHIV. "What an impact this
money will have on some of the most vulnerable yet inspiring young
people in the world."
QlikTech recently announced that since launching in the Change Their
World grant program in 2010, it has
awarded 50 grants to organizations in 18 countries, including HOPEHIV
who use its software for free. HOPEHIV uses QlikView to keep
track of supporter engagement, map ongoing projects throughout Africa,
and manage financial data.
