Natural gas prices fell to record low levels in 2012, thanks mainly to the shale boom in the U.S. The sharp drop in natural gas prices boosted demand, benefiting gas utilities such as ONEOK Inc. (NYSE: OKE), EQT Corporation (NYSE: EQT), Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (NASDAQ: CLNE), and Questar Corporation (NYSE: STR). Gas utilities, however, face significant challenges ahead as recent economic data suggests that the recovery in the U.S. economy has stalled.
