COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Angels of America's Fallen (AOAFallen), the rising non-profit that supports the children of America's fallen first responders and military service members, has been selected as the 2015 spotlight charity by First Allied Securities, Inc. (First Allied). First Allied is an independent broker-dealer supporting independent financial advisors across the nation within Cetera Financial Group, a leading network of independent broker-dealers. First Allied will spend the year working with its employees and affiliated financial advisors to raise money to support AOAFallen's mission of providing healthy developmental opportunities for children of America's fallen heroes.

"We are exceedingly honored that First Allied has selected Angels of America's Fallen as their spotlight charity for 2015," said Joe Lewis, Founder and CEO of AOAFallen. "First Allied's well-established track record in philanthropy is a resounding testament to their core values and we are humbled by their focus in helping us move children of America's fallen heroes off of our waiting list and into positive developmental activities."

Angels of America's Fallen covers the child's costs of participation in healthy activities with a coach or instructor who can help mentor them. The children pick their desired activity like karate, soccer, football, music, art, dance, etc., and the organization pays the provider of the activity directly so the family doesn't have to seek reimbursement. AOAFallen supports 200 children at this time, but there are more than 150 deserving children on a waiting list. Since Sept. 11, 2001, more than 16,000 children have lost a military parent.

"First Allied's employee-driven volunteer group, First Philanthropy, considers several worthy organizations each year for our spotlight charity and Angels of America's Fallen was the clear winner this year," said Kevin Keefe, President and CEO of First Allied. "Our headquarters is located in San Diego, a community that has a large military population. We are proud to be part of this community where we see firsthand many of the sacrifices men and women in the armed services, as well as first responders, make for all Americans. We're humbled by their service to our country and are honored to be able to help their children."

Since its launch in 2009, First Allied's First Philanthropy program has raised more than $200,000 for a variety of selected charities. Mr. Keefe continued, "First Philanthropy truly is a grassroots organization led by volunteers and our advisors who are our partners in our fundraising endeavors every year. Generosity and teamwork are core values of First Allied and when we come together to raise funds for a worthy cause, our organization grows even stronger."
