Primer to The Immune Response is a unique textbook with a completely updated, concise but comprehensive introduction to immunology. The text is written in an engaging conversational style that is to the point and very readable, and includes more than 200 color illustrations along with a comprehensive glossary and list of abbreviations. Published by Elsevier under the Academic Cell imprint, the book contains research passages on current experimental work published in Cell Press articles. These articles also form the basis of case studies that are found in the associated online study guide and are designed to reinforce clinical connections.

Lead author Dr. Tak Mak is the Director of the Campbell Family Institute for Breast Cancer Research in the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto and a University Professor in the Departments of Medical Biophysics and Immunology, University of Toronto. He gained worldwide prominence in 1984 as the leader of the team that first cloned the genes of the human T cell antigen receptor. Dr. Mak’s current research remains centered on mechanisms of immune recognition/regulation, malignant cell survival/death, inflammation in autoimmunity and cancer, and metabolic adaptation in tumor cells. He has published over 700 papers and holds many patents.
