LexisNexis (www.lexisnexis.com), a leading provider of content and technology solutions, announced today enhancements to its LexisNexis® CounselLink® legal software that make it easier for corporate legal teams to capture, organize and share critical case and matter details. Among these enhancements are a new matter journaling tool and improved Microsoft® Outlook® calendar synchronization - both of which further strengthen the matter management capabilities of CounselLink.

CounselLink Matter Journal is a robust electronic journaling tool that gives users the ability to capture and share notes on meetings, phone calls, status updates, documents and other pertinent information related to a matter. Journal entries are stored in a central repository and linked back to specific matters managed within the CounselLink service. Through the use of embedded search and filtering tools, users can easily find, categorize, group and pull key pieces of information into status reports with just a few mouse clicks. An attachment feature enables documents (e.g. depositions, meeting minutes, contracts, etc.) to be attached to individual journal entries along with notes or comments that provide context around how each document relates to or impacts the status of the matter.

"The CounselLink Matter Journal tool facilitates collaboration and elevates the effectiveness of corporate legal teams by helping to collect and organize important case details that might otherwise exist only on paper or in the memory of the managing attorney," said Ted Best, senior director, Product Management, LexisNexis. "Matter Journal saves time and gives peace of mind to corporate legal teams who want to know that all matter-related information is captured and readily accessible."

LexisNexis has also tightened the synchronization between the calendar functions resident within its CounselLink software and that of Microsoft Outlook. This synchronization helps eliminate the need for duplicate entry of calendar items and enables events created in either CounselLink or Outlook to be updated automatically across the two applications.

"Our earlier integration efforts with Microsoft Outlook had already provided CounselLink users the ability to access their e-billing and matter management information directly through the more familiar Outlook application most lawyers use every day," Best continued. "The new calendar synchronization further streamlines workflow and minimizes confusion through automatic synchronization of users' Outlook and CounselLink calendars."

An additional enhancement to the latest CounselLink release is the introduction of "Timekeeper Level Budgeting." The Timekeeper Level Budgeting tool helps law departments control costs by giving them a more comprehensive preview into the types and durations of specific tasks likely to be associated with a new matter. This information allows them to provide clear guidance to outside counsel on the appropriate resource and staffing levels they should apply to each task.

LexisNexis CounselLink enables corporate law departments to more effectively and efficiently manage their matters and legal spend, while at the same time optimizing their outside counsel relationships. The service consists of comprehensive matter management functionality, robust e-billing capabilities, actionable reporting and analysis tools and various outside counsel collaboration features.
