Today, REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais promoted a discussion with multiple experts from the forest sector about planning, operation and prevention in the Forest Protection Networks Against Fires. The '4th Easement Management Forum - Forest Protection Network' also included a field demonstration of a few pioneering machines in Portugal which promoted the efficiency of cleaning the forest.
This initiative, which took place in CNEMA's Auditorium, in Santarém, brought together over 300 people and targeted service providers who work with REN in the forestry sector.
In the morning, the session was devoted to issues related to Planning and Prevention in the forest and also included the sharing of good practices by two of REN's European counterparts: the Belgian ELIA and Red Eléctrica de España. After that came a discussion on the role of the Forest Protection Networks in the phase of Combating Forest Fires, with the participation of the Centre for Studies on Forest Fires (Centro de Estudos sobre Incêndios Florestais) of the University of Coimbra, of the Nature and Forest Conservation Institute (Instituto de Conservação da Natureza e Florestas) and of SEPNA's Comando Territorial de Santarém.
The Secretary of State for Forest and Rural Development, Miguel João de Freitas, closed this Forum's morning session.
In the afternoon, the Forum continued in the field. REN, in partnership with Bermarthor, showcased mechanization in the task of cleaning the forest, with a few highly productive machines never before used in Portugal.
