RENESAS DEVCON — Renesas Electronics, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced a program designed to foster development of third-party software applications and services to support the Renesas Synergy™ Platform. The Renesas Synergy Verified Software Add-on (VSA) Program member companies will provide software that is plug-and-play compatible with the Renesas Synergy Platform and fully verified by Renesas as compatible with current and future Renesas Synergy Platform products. The program will provide Renesas Synergy users with access to a robust, production-ready software and services library, and program participants will be able to market their products directly to customers of the world’s largest MCU supplier, Renesas Electronics. As of this release, eleven companies are already working with Renesas aggressively to provide software for this program.

Members of the Renesas Synergy VSA program can be assured that once their software is certified by the program, their software will remain compatible with the platform evolves. Participants in the program will also be able to post their software to the Renesas Synergy Gallery, a one-stop online resource where Renesas Synergy Platform users can download evaluation versions of VSA software and obtain technical support.

Time to market is a critical factor in the success of any IoT device. To help customers address this issue, in June 2015, Renesas introduced the Renesas Synergy Platform, an integrated hardware and software platform designed to accelerate time to market, reduce total cost of ownership, and remove many of the obstacles engineers face when developing products for the IoT. Developing application and services software can add unwanted time to the overall IoT product design process. To address this issue, the Renesas Synergy VSA Program was launched as a way to give customers access to software that is already verified as compatible with the Renesas Synergy Platform.

“The IoT will enable new business models that will require innovative applications. We’ve created the Renesas Synergy VSA Program as a way to make sure customers have access to the Renesas-verified software they’ll need to take their IoT designs from concept to production quickly and efficiently,” said Mark Rootz, Marketing Director with the IoT Business Unit, Renesas Electronics America. “Our VSA partners will also benefit from the program as it will allows them to sell software to the large customer base of the global leader in MCUs.”

Companies working for the Renesas Synergy VSA Program include recognized embedded software leaders, such as Alpwise, Bug Labs, Cypherbridge Systems, Clarinox, Express Logic, FDI, Gainspan, Iconlabs, IS2T, Serious Integrated and Skkynet. Evaluation versions of the software and services from these vendors will become available free to customers via the Renesas Synergy Gallery starting January 2016. Many of these companies are working on technologies vital to the IoT, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® low energy, LTE, security, and cloud connectivity.
