Repsol and the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC) signed an agreement today that strengthens the cooperation framework that has been in place for several years between both organisations in the fight against cancer.

Repsol's Executive Director of People and Organisation, Cristina Sanz, and the Chairman of the AECC Madrid Provincial Committee, Ignacio Muñoz, signed the agreement at an event that took place at the Repsol Campus in Madrid, the company's corporate headquarters.

With this agreement which is for a one year period and renewable by tacit agreement, Repsol and AECC reaffirm their commitment to work together on the prevention, information and public awareness of cancer, as well as the improvement of the quality of life of those affected by this disease.".

This agreement opens the door to new collaboration projects and strengthens the partnership that has existed between both organisations for several years, covering different areas of activity, these include the Súmate al Rosa campaign, a one day event held at the Repsol Campus focused on the prevention and awareness of breast cancer which coincides with the World Breast Cancer Day. Repsol also has a cancer solidarity network of employees who share their difficult life experiences.

Moreover, in the area of occupational health, Repsol and AECC carry out joint initiatives for employees, such as smoking cessation programs or outreach campaigns focused on preventing different types of cancer (melanoma, lung cancer among others.) Repsol also sponsors activities such as the Race against Cancer and has hosted the exhibition celebrating 50 years of AECC.

This agreement adds a new stimulus to the collaboration between Repsol and AECC on the prevention and early detection of cancer, to improve the quality of life of sufferers and their families and promote training of professionals and volunteers.

AECC is a private NPO (non-profit organisation) that has been declared of public utility and has been working to combat cancer for over 61 years. AECC includes patients, family members, volunteers and professionals who work together on the prevention and awareness, they also assist those affected and fund cancer research projects aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment. One of AECC's top priorities is quality cancer research in which since 2009 this private social institution has invested more than €24 million.
