Ricardo-AEA has supported Leicester City Council to reach the final round of the UK government's 'Go Ultra Low' scheme, part of a £500 million package of support for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs).

In 2014, Ricardo-AEA's work on Low Emission Strategies helped Leicester City Council prepare its application for a £65 million share of the ULEV funding. Leicester hopes to use the investment to make the city a centre of excellence for low emission vehicles and improve air quality in the city. This includes proposals to deliver infrastructure such as 8,000 charging points and an ULEV skills apprenticeship scheme.

The 'Go Ultra Low' competition is being held by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and the Department for Transport as part of the government's plan to support the uptake of ULEVs. The scheme will reward cities that demonstrate the most potential to adopt ULEVs in the local area.

Dr Guy Hitchcock Ricardo-AEA's knowledge leader on low emission strategies who assisted the Leicester bid team said: "This is a very exciting opportunity for the city of Leicester and we're very pleased that its application has reached the final round. Ricardo-AEA is well placed to support schemes given our technical expertise across low carbon transport, air quality and sustainable economics."

The cities shortlisted now have the opportunity to develop their proposals further before the winners are announced in autumn 2015. For more information on Ricardo-AEA's sustainable transport and air quality services, please visit: http://www.ricardo-aea.com/cms/what-we-do/.
