Ricardo's comprehensive rail industry expertise - ranging from the structural design of vehicle components and advanced on-board innovations, through to the full-scale manufacture of driveline systems - will be on display at InnoTrans 2014, one of the world's largest trade fairs for transport technology.

Ricardo's rail business has grown substantially in recent years, both in the company's areas of competence in rail engine and powertrain engineering, as well as the development and application of new areas of technological innovation throughout rail operations.

"Ricardo has grown rapidly in the rail industry in recent years, but this achievement has been on the very solid foundation of almost a century of development in the wider transportation sector," explains Ricardo Head of Rail Shane McCauley. "In addition to our base in the UK, where we work closely with government, rail franchise operators and maintenance providers, we also act as a technology partner to major railroads in North America, and locomotive and mass transit developers around the world including China. At InnoTrans 2014 in Berlin, we plan to focus on some of our latest technologies and innovations that are attractive on a cross-platform basis from freight to mass transit. Key amongst these are our expertise in vehicle structural light-weighting and our Ricardo TorqStor flywheel energy storage concept which is already the subject of a multi-partner rail evaluation project."

Ricardo will be exhibiting at Stand 206F in Hall 2.2 of InnoTrans 2014, which runs from Sept 23-26 in Berlin Messedamm, Germany.
