A New Jersey jury ordered Roche Holding AG (RHHBY) to pay two former users of its Accutane acne drug $18 million in damages, after finding the company didn't properly warn that the medicine could cause inflammatory bowel disease, Bloomberg News reported Friday.
Roche officials said the company will appeal the awards to Kathleen Rossitto and Riley Wilkinson, according to Bloomberg. The jury also rejected claims by two other former users of the drug, the report said.
"The company believes that the evidence at trial demonstrated that Accutane did not cause this disease and that Roche acted appropriately in providing information to the medical, scientific and regulatory communities," a Roche spokesman said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.
