• 614 environmental projects funded since the program began in 2004

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 19, 2018) - Rockwell Collins has announced the recipients of this year's Green Communities grants, a program that helps fund environmental projects in communities that Rockwell Collins operates in. With this year's projects, the company will have awarded a total of 614 projects valued at $1,061,000.

The program started out relatively small in 2004 and awarded recipients primarily in Iowa. Over the past 14 years, the program has grown and has awarded grants in a number of locations across the globe. The main goal of the Green Communities program is to encourage Rockwell Collins employees to volunteer and be actively involved in their local communities.

'The company takes pride in supporting our local community and employees have been very responsive to the opportunities provided in this program,' said Shawna Burkhardt, community relations specialist for Rockwell Collins. 'It's great to see employees come together with community groups to improve the environment.'

To apply for a Green Communities grant, a qualified non-profit organization, public or government entity must team with a Rockwell Collins employee or retiree. Grants are awarded by a review committee based on the following criteria:

  • Participation in the project by Rockwell Collins employees and/or retirees
  • Tangible environmental benefits of the project
  • Sustainability of the project benefits
  • Completion of the defined portion of the project within the calendar year of the grant award
  • Agreement to participate in publicizing the grant and the completed project
