New system reduces annual fuel, maintenance costs

HAMBURG, Germany (Apr. 14, 2015) - Rockwell Collins today unveiled its PAVES™ Passenger Services System (PSS) upgrade for air transport aircraft. The lightweight, low-cost reading light and cabin crew call system with optional USB charging port for personal devices is a direct replacement for existing systems that are less compatible with modern in-flight entertainment (IFE) system upgrades.

"Passenger service systems are a necessary component to an IFE upgrade; it's not just about installing new servers and video monitors," said Greg Irmen, vice president and general manager, Flight Controls and Information Systems for Rockwell Collins. "Our PAVES PSS provides airlines with a solution that will keep its cabins viable well into the future."

Rockwell Collins' PAVES PSS is a scalable solution for older in-service aircraft that are facing IFE obsolescence. It is compatible with any overhead IFE upgrade available for the market and is among the lowest cost options available.

Additionally, PAVES PSS reduces overall weight compared to legacy systems which will provide airlines with significant annual fuel cost savings. Also, the reliability of the new system provides a significant reduction in recurring maintenance costs.

Rockwell Collins' PAVES PSS will be available by the end of this year. The company is demonstrating the system this week at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2015 in Hamburg.
