SAN JOSE, Calif., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Vision Systems International, LLC (VSI), a leader in advanced Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) technology, has received a new contract with a total value of more than $32 million for the delivery of the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) to The Boeing Company for the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to include: Finland, Australia, Belgium, Canada, and Switzerland.
Under these production contracts, VSI will provide JHMCS including spares, technical support and ground support equipment for the Full Rate Production - Lot 8 (FRP-8) acquisitions. This procurement fulfills U.S. government domestic requirements and FMS production and spares commitments to a number of countries operating F-16 and F/A-18 aircrafts. Deliveries under FRP-8 will commence this year and continue through 2013.
"JHMCS, our first combat proven helmet, remains the world's leading helmet display for fixed-wing tactical aircraft. It is known and respected by fighter-attack pilots around the world because it enables them to maintain 'eyes out' while viewing critical information on the helmet visor. JHMCS gives pilots unparalleled situational awareness, providing them a significant advantage in both air-to-air and air-to-ground mission execution," said Phil King, president of VSI.
The JHMCS provides the pilot with "first look, first shot" high off-bore sight weapons engagement capabilities. The system enables the pilot to accurately cue onboard weapons and sensors against enemy aircraft and ground targets without the need to aggressively turn the aircraft or place the target in the Head Up Display (HUD) field-of-view for designation. Critical information and symbology, such as targeting cues and aircraft performance parameters, are graphically displayed directly on the pilot's visor.
"No other company can match VSI's knowledge and understanding of HMDS technology. VSI continues to be an innovator and leader in our field. We have been developing and producing combat-proven HMDS for more than 15 years and have sold more than 5,000 HMDS," continued King.
Founded in 1996, VSI is a joint venture between Elbit Systems of America, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ and TASE: ESLT) and Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL). VSI has produced more than 4,500 Joint helmet Mounted Cueing Systems (JHMCS) for the F-15, F-16 and F/A-18 aircraft. VSI is under contract to deliver Night Vision Cueing and Display (NVCD) Systems to the U.S. Air Force and Navy, and the Fifth Generation HMDS for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Additionally, VSI produces JHMCS II HMDs for multiple aviation platforms including fighters, light attack, military airlift and trainers. www.fighterhelmets.com
