Potential 10-year, $12.7 billion contract for more than 60,000 tactical radio systems, accessories and support services

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 1, 2016) - Rockwell Collins has been selected by the U.S. Army Program Executive Office C3T as one of three companies to compete for the Handheld, Manpack and Small Form Factor (HMS) program.

The award, announced by the Department of Defense on Feb. 26, calls for Rockwell Collins to initially build 30 two-channel, software-defined military communication radios for qualification testing, which will be based on the company's TruNet™ networked communications solution family of products.

Once the three companies have delivered their initial 30 radios, the Army will select vendors whose technology meets the HMS radio system requirements to move into the competition's next phase. The Army is authorized to buy as many as 60,296 radios throughout the 10-year acquisition program and expects full-rate production to commence in fiscal year 2017.

'This award is a critically important milestone that will give our warfighters access to the most advanced networked communication technology available. This ultimately gives them information that provides a full picture of the battlespace,' said Mike Jones, vice president and general manager, Communications, Navigation and EW Systems.

'For years, we've delivered this capability with the ARC-210, the most widely fielded radio in the airborne market. We're leveraging that expertise, along with our proven experience in networked communication across the battlefield, with our TruNet product line. It represents a complete turnkey system solution utilizing both air and ground assets,' Jones explained.
