Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ:ROVI) today unveiled its new HTML5-based, multiplatform Rovi Guide, designed to allow service providers and device manufacturers around the globe to rapidly create and deploy next-generation entertainment discovery and monetization solutions across multiple screens. Rovi’s latest guide is expected to enable the integration of Rovi’s suite of discovery services that feature advanced search and recommendations, natural-language interaction, extensive entertainment metadata, and more. These differentiated services are designed to help promote a more personalized entertainment experience that engages users and increases content consumption.

In addition to innovative services, Rovi Guide is also expected to provide new insights to customers based on multiscreen consumption patterns and behaviors. It is anticipated that customers can use this viewing data and intelligence to help further refine services and inform content merchandising and promotions. Rovi plans to showcase Rovi Guide at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) taking place in Amsterdam, September 12-16 (Hall 5, Stand A31).

“Beyond the obvious cost savings and deployment benefits of being able to deliver a single guide app across platforms and devices, what makes Rovi Guide better is the addition of newly acquired discovery innovations as well as data-science expertise,” said Omar Javaid, senior vice president, Rovi. “As a result of this combination, Rovi Guide will help define a new generation of connected and intelligent solutions that allow customers to deliver distinct services unlike anything else on the market today. While these services will undoubtedly delight users, importantly, they can help improve business performance by optimizing audience value and return.”

In addition to being able to support services such as search and recommendations from Rovi, the flexible Rovi Guide framework, based on open-standards, is also designed to streamline the integration of third-party applications and services. This capability is expected to help service providers quickly on-board additional value-added offerings for subscribers such as home security or interest-specific apps for weather, streaming video or music.

Service providers, device manufacturers and developers around the world are attempting to navigate a pay-TV environment that is growing in complexity with the explosion of content choices and viewer fragmentation. Offered as a thin client and using the power of a purpose-built cloud, Rovi Guide is engineered to allow providers to cost-effectively deliver TV Everywhere-type services, without the significant costs associated with an existing system overhaul. The flexible and scalable Rovi Guide is designed to help customers enhance and create new interactions with legacy systems, while at the same time extending programming guidance and authorized content access to almost any smart TV, next-generation set-top box, including hybrid DTAs, or mobile device.

The new Rovi Guide is expected to be available for evaluation and testing by service providers and device manufacturers in Europe and the Americas in October and ready for integration in 2015. Rovi is showcasing the new Rovi Guide and a range of Rovi Cloud Services at the International Broadcasting Convention 2014 (IBC), taking place in Amsterdam, September 12-16 (Hall 5, Stand A31). In addition, Rovi plans to showcase Rovi Guide’s portability by demonstrating the solution running on Broadcom’s advanced Trellis set-top box multi-application software framework, as well as Arcelik TVs.
