Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ:ROVI) today announced that its G-Guide xD solution has been chosen by NTT DOCOMO, INC. to power entertainment guides and programming information on NTT DOCOMO’s new TV BOX device, unveiled recently in Japan. With Rovi’s multi-platform interactive program guide, NTT DOCOMO’s subscribers can easily discover and connect to their favorite entertainment on the TV BOX and via complementing apps for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

“NTT DOCOMO is deploying innovative ways for their subscribers to view content on smartphones and tablets, and our collaboration reinforces the significant value that service providers place on extending discovery across multiple devices,” said Chong-Ho Choi, vice president, sales and marketing, Asia Pacific at Rovi. “Content discovery will continue to drive the next-generation consumer experience and with our multi-platform interactive program guides, we are poised to continue to power industry-leading solutions globally that connect people seamlessly and intuitively to multiple sources of entertainment at home or on the go.”

TV BOX is a TV tuner with recording functionality that enables smartphones or tablets to view Full/One-seg terrestrial digital broadcasting or NOTTV®. With the inclusion of G-Guide xD, supported by Rovi data, NTT DOCOMO subscribers can conveniently set TV BOX recordings using the accompanying mobile apps, review program information, images, and channel listings up to eight days out, and use the “six degrees” capability to discover new entertainment content.

Rovi’s “six degrees” discovery feature makes it easy to move from one content piece to another and drives an optimal entertainment experience whereby consumers can find connections and interrelated associations between actors as well as movies. With G-Guide xD, NTT DOCOMO subscribers can utilize an advanced feature set that encourages them to explore and find a movie or program to fit their mood, or choose a TV show from a list of ones in which their favorite celebrity has appeared, or determine when a program of interest will air again in the near future.

G-Guide xD is a mobile-based guide for iOS and Android devices that works similarly to Rovi’s G-Guide, an interactive program guide for digital terrestrial, broadcast satellite and commercial satellite services.
