Royal DSM : DSM CEO appointed chair of new High-Level Leadership Forum on Carbon Pricing and Competitiveness

'As the first chair of the High-Level Leadership Forum on Carbon Pricing and Competitiveness, I am committed to facilitating constructive conversations between governments and the private sector about carbon pricing, competitiveness and solutions for climate change that work effectively in the real economy.'

In this new role, Mr. Sijbesma will lead a panel that explores the concerns of business as well as lessons learned from companies that have successfully designed and implemented carbon pricing policies. DSM currently applies an internal carbon price of €50 per ton CO₂ equivalent.

Mr. Sijbesma co-chaired the High-Level Assembly of the CPLC this week ahead of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. More than 100 leaders from government, businesses, and civil society convened to assess global progress on carbon pricing and highlight recent developments. Featured remarks included World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed.

During the Assembly, CPLC published its annual Leadership Report, which includes a review of recent progress, case studies and messages from Mr. Sijbesma and others, including CPLC Co-Chair Catherine McKenna, Canada's Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. It also presented a new work program and governance team.

This week the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and We Mean Business issued a related report, The Carbon Pricing Corridors Initiative, highlighting private sector support for decarbonizing the power and chemical sectors in line with the Paris Agreement.

Mr. Sijbesma is a 'Climate Leader' of the World Bank Group together with Christiana Figueres (former Executive Secretary of UNFCCC, the UN's climate organization), Kofi Annan and Ban Ki-moon. This week he also made remarks at the 2018 Summit of the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate.
